Monitoring Your Baby's Development
Fetal ultrasound [dash] also known as a sonogram [dash] uses high-frequency sound waves to create real-time images of your baby and the uterine environment. It is a safe, non-invasive, and painless procedure that does not use radiation. Our experienced sonographers and providers use these images to ensure your pregnancy is progressing healthily.
Our ultrasound services typically include:
- Dating and Viability Scans: Performed early in the first trimester to confirm your pregnancy, determine your due date, and check for the baby’s heartbeat.
- Nuchal Translucency Screening: An optional screening performed between 11 and 13 weeks to assess the risk of certain chromosomal conditions.
- Anatomy Scan: A detailed evaluation usually performed around 20 weeks. We check the baby’s organs, limbs, and overall growth, as well as the position of the placenta and the level of amniotic fluid.
- Growth and Position Checks: Ultrasounds performed later in pregnancy to monitor the baby’s weight, position, and well-being if there are specific medical reasons for extra monitoring.
- Advanced Imaging: We utilize 2D, 3D, and 4D imaging technology to get a comprehensive view of your baby, allowing for both medical assessment and family bonding.

A Detailed Look at Your Baby's Health
The mid-pregnancy anatomy scan is one of the most important milestones in your prenatal care. This comprehensive exam allows us to look at your baby from head to toe, ensuring that all systems are developing as they should. It is also often the time when parents can choose to learn the gender of their baby.
What we check during the anatomy scan:
- Organ Systems: We look at the heart, brain, kidneys, and stomach to ensure they are properly formed and functioning.
- Skeletal Structure: We measure the baby’s head, abdomen, and limbs to track growth and check for normal development.
- Placental Position: We locate the placenta to ensure it is not covering the cervix (placenta previa).
- Amniotic Fluid: We measure the amount of fluid surrounding the baby to ensure there is enough to support healthy growth.
- Gender Reveal: If your baby is in the right position and you wish to know, our sonographer can typically identify the baby’s gender at this visit.
